Our elementary school grades have been learning some great lessons that are within well-known stories and fables. We are using Diane Venzera’s curriculum Tales of Wonder and Imagination, and last week we read “The Lion & the Mouse”.
In the story, a little mouse awakens a sleeping lion, and when the lion threatens to eat her, she promises to help him if he lets her go. Of course the lion is amused – after all, how could a tiny mouse be of any help to this mighty lion? But he lets her go.
One day, the lion gets trapped in a net, and no other animal dares to even come close to the angry, roaring lion to help him. But the little mouse, remembering its promise, musters up all its courage, and begins to gnaw through the net and frees the lion.
The story is teaching us that no matter how big or small we might be, what we choose to do can have a positive effect on others, and that in some ways, our good deeds come back to bless us.
Unity Principle: #5 – Through thoughts, words, and actions, we live the Truth we know.
